First step of the keyword research is to read the content of website, analysis what the page is taking about. Make the list of the major keywords of the site. Think as a user, customer point of view, which keywords customer will use to find the product, services or information related to your business. Also include them in your key word list. Also find out the what keywords your competitor are using and make a list of all those keywords.
Now do the research for your keywords, try to find out what people are searching for locally and globally. With the help of some keywords tools like Word Tracker, Google Keyword research Tool, Key Discovery tool you can find out how much traffic your keywords are getting daily, weekly and monthly. Select all those keywords which are showing large no. of traffic. Besides these also check the others keywords which are similar to your keywords but having good no. of traffic. You can find there will be some keywords which are similar to keywords of your business, and having a large no. of traffic. Include these keywords in your final list of the keywords.
Make a separate keyword list for all pages of your site. After doing all this make two phrases or three phrases of the keywords by using your selected keywords. Make the long tail keywords lists for all pages of the website. Let’s make all these process simple by making the three tier lists of the all keywords.
Single or Two Phrases Keywords
Single Keywords, shorter Phrases
Generic to industry
Lots of traffic
Lower Conversion Rate
Keywords with 3-4 Phrases
Slightly shorter phrases
Higher traffic number
Less conversion rate
Laser Focus
LONG Tail Keywords
Longer and more targeted keywords
Lesser Traffic
Higher Conversion Rate
Long term keywords are clearer and result oriented. If someone is typing more details in search engines more clearly it shows what exactly the customer or user is looking for. Let’s take an example.
Suppose someone type “School Shoes” in the search engines, even if keywords have high traffic but it’s hard to analysis what exactly he is looking for. Now make this key phrases little bit longer like “School Shoes for girls” this keyword phrase shows that he is looking for school shoes for girls may be he is looking for information or products still bit hard to find out.
Let’s take the third example “Cheap school shoes for central school girls”, now this keyword phrases clearly shows that someone is looking to purchase cheap girl shoes for a specific school. So if your site have same product or services then conversion rate for this keywords are higher than other two keywords.
