If I asked you this question, what is browser? Do you know the answer? Specially if you are from non IT background. I asked this simple question to lots of my frineds and maximum of them are non IT background. Got surprised, a few of them looked at me in such way that i asked about some java script or coding :). And few right answers i got is Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Chrome. A web browser is program in your computer which allow you to visit the websites. Yahoo had launched the Yahoo search direct which will show you latest results as you type in search box. You can see the latest trending results and latest news without typing entire search query and can see up to 10 search results in Yahoo search box. In Yahoo Search Direct you can see the latest news, videos, rating of products, hotels, flights etc. in search results.

It will be not wrong to say that Yahoo Search Direct is quite similar to Google Instant. It seems Yahoo is following Google for improving his user search experience. Personally i will say, Yahoo search direct is not new innovation in search. It's hard to remember when last time Yahoo had done something new in search.

Comscore: Android Smart Phones Leader in U.S.

Good news for Google and Android lover, Android become the market leader in U.S. Android edged out the RIM and move into first postion. Although the differnce is not that much but if android keep grwoing in same way it will cover the major smart phones market in U.S.

According to comscore Android has market share of 31.2% where as RIM has 30.4% market share. Apple is in third position with market share of 24.6%.

In U.S. more than 68.5 million people own the smart phones. In cell phones device manufacturer Samsung is in top rank with 24.9 percentage, followed by LG with 20.8%, Motorola (16.5%), RIM (8.6 %) and Apple (7%) market share. You can read the entire post at Comscore Mobile Market Share report.

Do Future of Social Media is Cell Phones

A few days ago, i read in Mashable, Facebook is planning to launch two Facebook Phones in this March. Facebook has done partnership with HTC and may use android as OS for Facebook Phone. Finally Facebook has planned to come in cell phones.

As Facebook said we want to make Facebook more Mobile Social. We want more and more people can access Facebook through cell phones and Facebook Phone is first step to make Facebook more mobile social.

Currently Facebook have around 600 million users and out of which more than 200 million user access Facebook through cell phones. A year ago there were only 50 million people who used cell phones to access Facebook. You can see people has increased 4 times only in one year. And in next years it will increase more in number.

Once there was time people can access the internet in cell phones only through Smart phones. But now from a medium range of cell phones whose cost start from 5-6k rupees, you can access the social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, Orkut etc. Moreover 3G services will also become one of the big reason to use internet in cell phones.

Even every social media website want to make their website cell phones compatiable. There are few social media websites like FourSquare, Path which you can access only through cell phones. I think you can use and take the maximum benefits of Google Places, Facebook Places through cell phones.

This time i have simple Motorolla cell phone, but planning to buy Android OS enabled cell phone. I think this year we will see lots more mobile phones applications. This year will be of Mobile phones and i am sure we will see lots of Tablets, gadgets and low- medium range smart phones in market.

Do you Really Need a Website for Business

This is a serious question, do you really need a website for your business? My answer is not necessarily, if you know how to use internet resources. If you know how to use Google, Yahoo, Bing and Social media channels, you do not require a website. Specially, if you have a small business and can't afford for a website. Instead of a website there are few free portals, tools which you should have in internet.

Create a blog for your business and services. Blogs are free to use and are easy to update. You can write about your product and services in your blogs. Beside this blogs are good place for visitors interaction. You can reply their comments and can share all information related to your product and services.

Google Places is wonderful tool to register your products and business. It's free of cost and you can add pictures, videos related to your product and services. So that if any one search for product and services related to your business and servics locally, your Google places page will shown in search results.

Will This Kill This? What Google say about This?

One of most saying line in internet world, when a company is going to launch a new product or application. Tomorrow i.e. on Monday Facebook may announce Facebook mail, now again question arises,
Will Facebook mail kill the Gmail :) ?

At time of goo.gl launch the question was, Will this kill bit.ly ?
When Google launch the Google Instant then question was, Will this kill SEO?

I could not understand why people are more insecure than companies :) ? But one thing is sure, before lunch of any product they create good buzz about product. At least company get free publicity and more people know about product.

When same question was asked from Google about competitors and Social media. Google said,

"We always welcome our competitor, internet is a multimillion dollar industry. In future we can see more competitors. And we never waste time on how we can stop our competitor. We are focusing on creating wonderful products which people will love. And if we bring useful and wonderful products our task is done."

And to get a good page rank for a website is really tough task, a website having page rank of 7-8 is said to be a very good page rank website.

Facebook+Bing Announced "Social Search"

Facebook is planning to come up with social search and want to make search more personalize. Yesterday Mark Zuckerberg had announced Facebook is working with Bing to make search more social. He also gave the answers of few questions about "Social Search" and how does it work?

Bing will show the search results for Facebook Profile of the people and  Likes of the people. On what types of data Facebook will provide to Bing and on Facebook users privacy, Mark answer was "Bing can get only information about you what any other user can see in Facebook. It’s all public information."

Finally Google has come up with URL shortener tool goo.gl. Now you can shortener the long URL by using goo.gl and can easily share among your friends. Before goo.gl, bit.ly was the most used web site for URL shortener. But now goo.gl will surely effect the market share of bit.ly.

Google also providing the analytic analysis for your shortener URL. You can see the clicks for Past: two hours| day| week| month| all time. Besides this in detail information section you can see the how many of clicks you got for your URL, from which countries you got the clicks etc. For all these details you need to sign in goo.gl with your gmail account.

As SEO, Two Questions to Google Instant

Google Instant start showing search results in USA & European Countries. In my previous post i discussed about the Google Instant. But as SEO there are still two questions in my mind. First one is about

Long Tail Keywords
Now Google is showing search results for a single alphabet, means before writing the a complete word you can get your desired search results. For example if i want to search for "Cheap bakery cake services Bangalore". I don't think now you have to type all these words for your search results.

Traffic to Website
Its my second question, How Google Instant effect the traffic of website? In my opinion Google Instant decrease the traffic of website. Suppose for keywords "Sports shoes and t shirts" my website is top in ranking. For this keyword my website is getting thousands of visitors. But now there are  less chances that i will get the same traffic for these keywords. Because for every single alphabet Google is showing results, more results means more options and less chances of writing the keyword.

Will "Google Instant" Effect the SEO Industry?

Day before yesterday i.e. on 8-Sept-2010 Google announced new search results with "Google Instant". Punch line for Google Instant is "Search is now faster than speed of type."

Now you can see the different search results instantly as you type the words in Google search box. Even for a single character you will see the different results in search page. Like if you type only "b", you will get search results, if you add one more world "a" means "ba" will get different results instantly, and so on.

Also if you type "Basketball", Google will show all results related to Basketball, if add one more word "Shop" means "Basketball Shop" you will get the different search results at same second or time on search page. Further if add one more word "Bangalore" means "Basketball Shop Bangalore" you will see the different results on same page. For for both single character & whole word you will get the different search results. I think you get the idea.

Now for every single word you type in search box, Google show the different results instantly. I check this in Google i.e. at India, but still showing old search results, may be will take few weeks or months.

Although Google is giving the option of Turn off streaming/Turn on streaming, of Instant Search next to Search box. Means you can see the search results as Google showed earlier.

But thing to concerned is how it is going to effect the SEO ? Still i have not read any comments from Danny, Rand and SEO industry. May be because i post it too early, but hope in few days will find the good thoughts and comments from SEO industry.

India will have 237 Million Internet users in 2015

According to studies by Internet world status Group more than 1.70 billion people worldwide use the Internet. And the growth rate of internet user is more than 380% in worldwide. India comes in fourth place in with more than 81 million internet users and having growth rate of more than 1500%.

Latest report from the Boston Consulting Group said the number of internet users in India is expected to increase triple in next five years, i.e. 2015. According to report India will have 237 million internet users by 2015.
Some of the highlights of report are
. Major no. of internet users in India will come from cell phones. Right now only 1% people use the cell phone for internet.
. According to report Indian internet user spent 73% of their time in job search
. An average internet user spend the half an hour in day on internet.
. Five top emerging internet countries are India, Brazil, China, Russia, Indonesia
